What Happens in a Little Fluent Lesson?

A 25-minute live lesson for a child should feel like play, not school. Here is what a Little Fluent lesson looks like, step by step.
Before the lesson
A few minutes before the lesson, your child presses Start lesson on the family page (or types their code on the lesson page). The screen checks the camera and microphone first. Then the teacher calls your child in, and they see each other on video.
Hello and warm-up
Every lesson starts with a friendly hello. Then a quick warm-up brings back words from the last lesson, so they keep coming back until they stick.
New words, with pictures and play
The teacher brings in the new words with big pictures on the screen. Your child finds them, touches them, says them and uses them in a sentence. Speako, our friendly learning character, cheers them on.
Using the words
Then the words are used in games and tasks: finding things in a picture, building a sentence ("Can I have a red apple, please?"), putting things in the right place ("Put the cat under the chair"), answering questions and spotting differences. At the older levels, children read notices and emails, tell stories from pictures and give their opinions.
A story
Most units have a picture story. Your child listens, looks, answers questions and, at the older levels, tells a story in their own words.
Well done and goodbye
The lesson ends with praise and a goodbye. Your child earns gifts for speaking, and new titles as they collect them. After the lesson, the teacher writes a short note that you can read on your family page.
Between lessons
The Practice & games button on the family page lets your child play with the words of their level between lessons. No camera is needed for the games.
